The BDS or Bachelor of Dental Surgery program is a 5-year undergraduate and dental course in India. It is a compulsory course for students who wish to work as dentists in public or private hospitals. BDS is one of the most popular subjects after MBBS in India. BDS focuses on training and enrolling students in dental science and surgery. The 5-year program includes 4 years of classroom education and 1 year of compulsory circular training and internship.
After MBBS, one of the most sought after subjects by students these days in the health field is BDS. The standard is regulated by the Indian Dental Council (DCI). Briefly explaining the various subjects taught in this program include Dental Histology, Oral Pathology, Oral Surgery, etc. Students are required to register with the Indian Dental Council in charge of the BDS course in order to be able to perform their duties after graduation. During training, students can receive a monthly stipend of INR 15,000 - 40,000 (approx.) which is entirely dependent on college. After graduation, students often practice their skills in the field of dentistry in public or private hospitals.

What are the BDS eligibility criteria?
Eligibility for a course is a requirement for admission to a particular college and course. The basic criteria for admission to BDS courses is set out as follows:
⇒ The applicant must pass a 10 + 2 eligibility test or equivalent qualification with a aggregate value of 50% from a recognized institution
⇒ They should have been studying Physics, Chemistry and Biology compulsorily in their 10 + 2.
⇒ In almost all colleges offering this course, admission is based on the NEET result. The candidate applying must clear the cut-off of the exam to be eligible for admission.
⇒If students are able to find a place to enter, they need to appear during college-sponsored counseling sessions.
⇒There are usually three counseling sessions withheld

Admission to the BDS usually takes place through a national NEET exam conducted nationwide. It has been made compulsory since 2016 that inclusion in medical studies such as MBBS, BDS, etc. Requires students to appear in NEET. To be eligible for the course, a student must obtain a minimum of 50% in a valid 10 + 2 exam. Nominees are allowed to enter the college admission process only if they meet the eligibility process. Once students have cleared a set set of tests, they can proceed with college admission counseling sessions.

Not many entries are being accepted into BDS. The NEET national level test is the end of the test designed for admission to BDS courses.

Neet Counselling Prodcedure
NEET counseling is done by MCC to provide admission under MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses. Applicants should be aware that counseling is done online where they need to register online. The MCC is responsible for advising on 15% AIQ seats only. Including mop up round NEET 15% AIQ counseling performed in 3 cycles.
Who Is Eligible for NEET Counseling?
⇒ Those who are eligible for NEET 2021 are entitled to apply for counseling.
⇒ Applicants with a minimum of 50th percentile (40th percentile of SC / ST / OBC and 45th percentile of the disabled in general) at NEET will be considered eligible for the exam.
⇒ In addition, the department is releasing a list of eligible students under All India Quota with the exception of Jammu and Kashmir students who will participate in the 15% AIQ Counseling.
⇒ Applicants must register on the MCC website to receive counseling
Central University Eligibility Criteria
⇒ Delhi University (LHMC, UCMS, MAMC): - We all know that 15% of the seats will be donated to AIQ. 85% of the institute's seats will be available only to 11th and 12th graders in Delhi.
⇒ Aligarh Muslim University (AMU): - The University will offer 50% institutional reservations for the next three years and 50% for other NEET students.
⇒ BHU: - All candidates are eligible to be admitted to BHU after qualifying for NEET.
⇒ Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi: There will be an internal allocation of 3 seats in BDS for those students who have passed 10th or 12th grade at their school. The remaining 47 BDS seats will be open to the public.
Increase in Colleges and Seats
This year the number of medical colleges participating in AIQ counseling has been increased. The increase in the number of colleges and seats will be of benefit to the candidates.
Last year there were only 193 medical colleges and this year there will be 235 medical colleges under AIQ counseling.
With the increase in the number of colleges, the number of seats has also been increased to 4591 from 4064.
In addition, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and ESIC college recruitment college were previously run by IPU administrators but from this year the process of advising these colleges will be under 85% of chair counseling.
